In the Sao Paulo state championship on Sunday 29 January 2006 Argentine international Carlos Tevez netted his second goal of the year to help Corinthians rout Rio Branco 4-1. Palmeiras beat Portuguesa Santista 4-0 to win its sixth consecutive match and open a three-point lead in the Sao Paulo state competition; it was also on Saturday. Corinthians' top scorer last season - Tevez scored his second goal in as many matches with a one-timer from about seven meters in the 48th minute. At Palestra Italia stadium in Sao Paulo Palmeiras extended its lead with the thrashing of Portuguesa Santista. Guarani at its Morumbi stadium held world club champion Sao Paulo to 3-3. Only one of its four matches the defending Sao Paulo state champion has won.
