In the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo has been taking place one of the most lavish weddings of recent years. Athina Roussel, the billionaire heiress to the Late Greek shipping tycoon Aristotle Onassis's fortune, married Brazilian equestrian champion Alvaro Affonso de Miranda on Saturday, December 3. Tight security was in place for the ceremony in the immaculate gardens of an art museum in the city. Ms Onassis and her future husband met at a riding academy in Belgium in 2002. The event attended up to 1,300 guests from around the world. Athina's father did not attend. The groom’s father, Brazilian businessman, gave Ricardo Miranda Athina, 20, away. The bride was dressed in a pearl-colored gown designed by Italian couturier Valentino. It had a long train, and she was bare-shouldered. The couple exchanged vows around 10 p.m. on December 3, and the party lasted until 4 a.m. December 4.
